Brewmaster Bob Smith's dream was sparked to open a small brewery in the late 70's. An accomplished homebrew, Bob strived to create full-flavored ales and lagers, similar to the best imports available at that time.

With the help of a group of investors, Bob formed Mad River Brewing Company in 1989. Now in their thirteenth year, they continue their commitment in producing fine ales using traditional English brewing techniques. 

Concern for their community and for the environment has been part of their mission statement since the beginning. Mad River Brewing Company has received the State of California "Waste Reduction Awarenesss Award" the past six years running. Currently, they recycle or reuse 98% of their waste, as well as operate their own wastewater treatment facility to reduce their local impact within their community.
